Have you ever heard of the theory that it is better for one man to die than an entire nation to suffer? Do you believe that to be true? Is it ever okay to take a life in hopes of saving others?

About This Quote

The theory that it is better for one man to die than an entire nation to suffer is based upon the idea that the freedom of one person is worth more than all the lives of everyone in a nation. For instance, if you were walking down the street and could save only one person before being shot yourself, would you choose to save that one man or would you sacrifice yourself for the good of the rest? If you answered that saving the life of one was worth more than saving millions, I’m guessing your answer is correct. But, if so, what makes your answer so certain? What is it about saving millions that makes them all so much less important than you? Are you so sure that they are less important or do you just think they are not as important as you are? I’ve often wondered why it is okay for some people to die for others but not okay for others to die for themselves. Is it just because they are not as important as you are or because they are not as important as someone else is?
